How Does It Work?
Solar hot-water systems consist of three major components:
- the solar collectors (panels)
- a storage tank
- a closed-loop circulation system
- When the sun shines on the collectors, solar fluid in the panels absorbs the sun's energy and becomes hot.
- A control pump circulates this hot fluid from the collectors through insulated pipes to a heat exchanger that transfers the heat to the potable water in the solar storage tank.
- The solar storage tank supplies the hot water to the existing water heating system.
- The solar fluid is then pumped back to the collectors and the process begins again.
