Part of Green Planet Building's recycling program is done through our donations to
Habitat for Humanity, GLA. Habitat for Humanity, GLA is an organization that tackles
important housing issues throughout the Los Angeles area. The overwhelming need
for housing in Los Angeles County has provided HFH GLA with a unique opportunity
to change lives in our neighborhoods. Los Angeles ranks last in affordable housing in
the U.S. and yet Habitat for Humanity is one of the few – if not only – affordable home
ownership programs that serves families earning 30-80% of the median family income.
Cost burden and overcrowding are the most serious problems experienced by very low-
income area residents. HFH offers a hand up, not a hand out. HFH does not give away
homes, they require Habitat homeowners to invest up to 500 hours of Sweat Equity to
help build their home and each qualify for a 0% interest mortgage. Shelter is a basic
human need and Habitat strives to achieve its goal of eliminating substandard housing by
making safe, decent, affordable housing a reality for all families.
Green Planet Building donates all usable building materials, appliances and home
furnishings from the homes we remodel to HFH GLA. We have found that through our
donation efforts we save landfills from large amounts of usable waste. Green Planet
Building doesn't stop at material donations, we also put our time and energy into
construction projects built in the Los Angeles area. Green Planet Building believes
that your time is the most valuable gift you can share with someone. We take joy in
volunteering and putting our building knowledge and skills to use for the greater good of
our community.

Green Planet Building has partnered with the Point Foundation to provide financial
support, mentoring, leadership training, and hope to meritorious students who are
marginalized due to sexual orientation, gender identity or gender expression.
Point recognizes that individuals may be socially marginalized or even abandoned by
family, friends and society because of their sexual orientation, gender expression or
gender identity.
Point attempts to identify students who have exceptional financial needs that would
require personal assistance for personal success. Point believes that these individuals
would benefit from a support system that facilitates their preparation for the future to help
ensure a lifetime of effectual leadership and exceptional productivity.
By identifying the need, Point hopes to provide a greater level of acceptance, respect
and tolerance within future generations for all persons, regardless of sexual orientation,
gender expression or gender identity.
Green Planet Building supports the Point foundation and their efforts to create awareness
for young individuals striving to find their place in this world. We believe that each
person has the right to be accepted for who they are and should always know there are
people willing to stand by them while they grow.
Green Planet believes awareness, acceptance and love will build a more balanced planet
for the future.
At Green Planet Building, we're changing
the world one home at a time—and one
child at a time. Many green home
builders will say they're helping the world
through sustainable building practices, but
Green Planet Building goes one step further. For each
home we build, we sponsor a child from SOS Children's
Villages, a renowned international children's charity that
utilizes 90% of their donations to create new families for
orphans. SOS (known outside of the U.S. as "SOS-
Kinderdorf International") has 473 villages in 132 countries
including the United States. Each SOS Children's Village is
compromised of approximately 10-15 houses, with 6-12
children in each house. Each house has an SOS mother
who cares for the children as if they were her own. The
children grow up as brothers and sisters and become part of
the larger local community. As green home builders, we at
Green Planet certainly believe in building healthy, green
communities in Los Angeles, and we also believe in sharing
our success with causes that are close to our hearts.
Tasia Stern, the wife of Green Planet founder, Harvey Stern,
came across SOS, and realized that green home builders
have a lot in common with SOS:
Like green builders, SOS builds eco-sustainable homes and
villages for their children. Many homes are built from natural,
local materials in their area.
SOS focuses on protecting children and building family.
Green home builders like Green Planet are also helping to
protect children through using non-toxic materials like low-
VOC paints and finishes that improve the indoor air quality of
nurseries, new additions, and entire homes.
So when you choose Green Planet Building as your green
home builder, you're not only changing the planet, you're
also helping to change the life of a child.
